History of NASCAR

The nation was going through a tremendous period of change in 1947. Just a couple of years out of a war, everything was getting back to normal. In fact, things were going well. The economy was on the upswing. The country was in a good mood and the heroes had shifted from the battlefield to the ballfield and the movie screen. And to the racetrack.

Stock car racing was experiencing the greatest popularity it had ever seen. Tracks all over the country were drawing more drivers to race in front of bigger crowds.

Rolex 24 At Daytona
The season opener to the Rolex Sports Car Series is not only the most prestigious sports car race in America, but also the toughest. An international field of drivers and teams will fight it out on the Speedway's 3.56-mile road course in the kick off event to Speedweeks.

Budweiser Shootout
The Budweiser Shootout is a high-octane All-Star race featuring the previous season's Bud Pole winner's and past Budweiser Shootout champions. Before the Budweiser Shootout, the ARCA RE/MAX Series, which features the future stars of NASCAR, will kick off their season with the Advance Discount Auto Parts 200.

All NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series will be searching for speed on Bud Pole Day for the Daytona 500 as the pole and outside pole for "The Great American Race" are at stake.

Gatorade Duel At Daytona
The biggest non-weekend sporting event in the country, the Gatorade Duel At Daytona finalizes the starting field for the Daytona 500. The pair of 150-mile sprint races features high drama as the stars of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series jockey for starting spots in the Daytona 500.

Truck Series 250 - IROC
An action-packed doubleheader of racing kicks off with Round 1 of the Crown Royal IROC Series, an invitation-only series that features 12 of the best drivers in the world in identically prepared cars in a 40-lap sprint race. Then plenty of sparks will fly as the tough trucks from the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series battle for supremacy under the lights on the high banks in a 250-mile, 100-lap race.
