Denis
Thornton, an esc-Royal Navy Sea Harris Pilot, is the coordinator for
all administrative matters outside of your dedicated Free Fall
Instruction Course in Florida. You will be met at Orlando or Sanford
International Airport, according to your flight arrangements, and be
transported to your accommodations in DeLeon Springs.
DeLeon Springs is a small
village an easy 5 miles drive from the drop zone in DeLand.
It is conveniently situated for travel to the world famous Daytona
Beach and the many renowned theme
park attractions in the Orlando / Disney area.
 You
will be accommodated with the other members of your course in one of
three houses situated on our 16 acre horse ranch. The accommodations
are very comfortable including air conditioning and 100 channel
satellite TV. Bed linens and towels are also provided. Here you will
meet many other skydivers from all parts of the world. Their
experiences vary from 4 and 8 way championship teams to less seasoned
jumpers like yourself. You will benefit from the many discussions and
conversations that take place over the barbeque grill and during other
events and activities that take place here.
Here
you can relax in the heated swimming pool, exercise on the weight
machines, trampoline or hike in the large wooded grounds - home to a
great variety of birds, squirrels, opossums and brightly colored
butterflies; but no alligators. Alligators may be viewed close up on
one of the optional pontoon boat guided wildlife tours to beautiful
local springs and nature preserves in the nearby State Park
and St. Johns River.
 The
thousands of acres in the preserves are home to a spectacular array of
birds ranging from Bald Eagles and Ospreys to the elusive Bitterns and
Black Crowned Night Herons. Endangered Manatees can often be observed
at the nearby Blue
Spring State Park along. Alligators
can be seen basking on the banks of the local secluded creeks and
tributaries. This is a veritable birdwatcher and nature lover's
paradise.
A specialized flats
fishing boat is also available for those of you who might like to try
your hand at catching Largemouth Bass, Speckled Trout or Bluegills.
For those of you who might enjoy more vagarious activities during your
days off, we have a Yamaha jet-ski for use on Lake Diaz, just five
minutes from the ranch. A sailing dinghy is also available for use on
the lake and a Hobie Cat will be included soon. Expert sailing
instruction is available for beginners. We also have water ski
facilities and again expert instruction can be given.
 Alternatively
you may wish to learn Scuba Diving in the clear spring waters of DeLeon
Springs State Park at the end of our road. Here the natural
spring has been walled in to create a large swimming lake set amongst
the 600 year old oaks and colorful azalea bushes. The
Old Spanish Sugar Mill Restaurant at the State Park is famous
for its pancake breakfast that you cook yourself at your table /
griddle. This is but one of many
fine restaurants in the local area - many of which offer
"all-you-can-eat" for ridiculously low prices!
In addition to the
abovementioned optional activities you may wish to go horse riding! After all, you are staying on a horse ranch! Dennis' wife, Jean, is a
very experienced and professional rider who specializes in dressage
training. Along with our trained schooling horses we also have the
number 1 Hippizzan Stallion in the whole of the U.S.A; but for those
of you who may not be up to "airs above the ground", in
addition to your skydiving, we do have many unspoiled backwoods trails
around the property.
And last, but not least,
we can arrange optional flying lessons, air boating, powered
parasailing, golfing or just simply lazing around on one of the many
beautiful beaches with your PinŮ… Colada while Reggae music play in
the distance. In summary, the DeLeon Springs / DeLand area is the
place to experience everything Florida is famous for - it's wonderful
climate, beautiful beaches, theme parks and great hospitality; and in
addition to this, it is after all the
MECCA OF
SKYDIVING!
Accommodations can also be
arranged for your family or friends, even if they don't wish to
experience the "ultimate thrill" of skydiving! Indeed
perhaps they might when they are here or maybe just do a tundra jump
while you are training (We'll take good care of them).
Ya'll come jump with us
now... ya hear?
