
General Haywood
County Information
Haywood County is located in Western North Carolina. The northeastern
boundary borders Tennessee. The northern portion of the Great Smoky
Mountains National Park and a part of the Pisgah Forest is located
in the county.

Average Mean Temperature: Summer; June 68.8, July 71.3, August 70.5,
Winter; December 38.8, January 38.9. Average Snowfall is 12.5 inches.
Growing season 175 days. Average annual rainfall 45.13 inches.
History
The county was initially a part of the Cherokee Indian Nation. After
the Revolutionary War, the English, Scotch-Irish, Germans and the
Dutch settled here. Originally a part of Buncombe County, it was
separated in March 1808 and was named in honor of John Haywood,
State Treasurer from 1787 to 1827.
Recreation
Haywood County has many fine restaraunts, a ski resort, six golf
courses and three Country Clubs. Hiking trails, horseback riding,
white water rafting, picnicking, fishing, camping and numerous other
outdoor activities abound. We also have a fun park and zoo.
Health Facilities
A 200 bed hospital, constructed in 1979, offers private rooms to
each patient and has ultra-modern equipment. It is located in the
center of the county just west of the town of Clyde.
Churches
Modern churches representing all the leading denominations are to
be found in Haywood County. Also, Lake Junaluska Assembly, the World
Methodist Assembly grounds are located in Haywood County.
